Recently I was trying to install Ubuntu on IBM BladeCenter MT 8677. With Ubuntu 8.04 (32 bit desktop version) I faced a strange problem. After the boot was complete it died as X failed to start and I ended up with blank screen. This problem is not there with Ubuntu Linux 7.04.
So next I tried Ubuntu 8.10 64 bit server edition. It started with graphical installation but died and continued with text mode. It detected most hardware along with Broadcom network interfaces and SCSI hard disks. Partitioning and formatting done successfully. Base system, kernel and rest of the system install also sailed smoothly.
Basically the system install was a breeze compared to graphic mode on desktop it is a lot faster.
As of now, the system is working without any problems. I will update this post if I face any problems.
